GAFFNEY, S.C. -
The University of Louisville lacrosse team earned a perfect 5-0 record in the program's first ever fall exhibition event last Saturday at the Limestone Fall Fest hosted by Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C.
The Cards earned wins over Belmont Abbey, Queens University, Limestone, Davidson and Lees McRae College. The event was the first of four exhibition events for the Cards this fall in preparation for the program's first varsity season in Feb.
"I'll be happy any time we come out of a tournament 5-0, but I was especially proud of the come-from-behind wins against Limestone and Davidson," said Cards' head coach Kellie Young. "The athletes played with true grit and tremendous heart in each of the matches."
Up next, the Cards will compete at the Loyola Hound Round Robin in Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, Oct. 6. The Cards' fall schedule will also include a game at Northwestern on Oct. 12 and they will host the Louisville Classic on Oct. 21 at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium, located on S. Floyd St., next to the new Yum! Center.
"We need good preparation this week for a more competitive schedule this weekend at Loyola," Young said. "We have a long way to go until we function as one unit, balancing instinct with following a coach's plan, but all-in-all, it was a good assessment of where we are and a great day in Louisville history."
The University of Louisville will officially begin varsity competition in lacrosse on Feb. 22, 2008 as they host Presbyterian College at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
