Greenville, NC - Nina Simotes' three-point attempt hit the rim with six seconds remaining and ECU's Kristen May-Richardson hit two free throws as the Cardinals fell 74-69 at East Carolina Friday night. Sara Nord led the Cards with 17 points and ECU's Jennifer Jackson led all scorers with 22 points.

The Cardinals started the second half with a 8-2 run to tied the score at 39 in the first three minutes of play. Then Jackson hit a jumper to put ECU back in the lead. With just over five minutes remaining, Nord hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 62. Simotes hit a jumper at the 4:39 mark to go ahead 64-62. Then Simotes nailed a three-pointer to put the Cards up 67-62 with 4:09 remaining.

ECU's Courtney Willis hit a layup, sparking a 10-0 run to go up 72-67 with 1:31 remaining. Angel Bradley scored on a putback to put the Cards within striking distance. May-Richardson missed the front end of a one and one. Sabrina Minter missed a three-pointer and ECU's Jackson missed another front end of a one-and-one. With 22 seconds remaining the Cards took a timeout to set up the Simotes shot.
 

 

Louisville led East Carolina 12-6 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half. The Pirates went on a 6-0 run to tie the score at 12 with 11:37 remaining in the half. The Cards regained the lead with a jumper by Wolke and a three-pointer by Nord.

With just over seven minutes to go in the half, Jackson knotted the score at 17 and Samantha Panky hit two free throws to move ahead 19-17. Nero then hit a jumper to tie the score at 19.

The Cardinals were held without a field goal for three minutes, allowing East Carolina to take the lead and hold on for a 37-31 lead at the break.

Louisville will face Charlotte on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. The game will be televised live
